During his trip to the regions, Minister of Transport Andrei Nikitin held working meetings with Head of the Nenets Autonomous Area Irina Gekht and Arkhangelsk Region Governor Alexander Tsibulsky, as per the press service of the Russian Government.While staying in the Nenets Autonomous Area, the Minister of Transport inspected the Naryan-Mar airfield and a section of the Naryan-Mar – Usinsk motorway (with a bridge across the Kuya River) which are subject for reconstruction.The airfield renovation project is worth over ten billion rubles. The runway and taxiways will be upgraded, and new flight safety facilities will be built.When completed, the bridge across the Kuya River will make it possible to link the area with neighboring regions and to facilitate all-year-round traffic. A low-rise local bridge functions 11 months a year and is dismantled during spring floods.“The Nenets Autonomous Area is an important transport and logistic hub in the West Arctic. Our joint objective is to guarantee future sustained development. Important freight terminals are located at Naryan-Mar and Varandei seaports, and they maintain the oil and coal export potential in the Arctic Zone,” Andrei Nikitin noted.While visiting the Arkhangelsk Region, the Minister toured key facilities of the local transport sector, including the Arkhangelsk airport, as well as a bridge across the Vozhdoromka River, part of the Arkhangelsk – Belogorsky – Pinega – Kimzha – Mezen motorway. The bridge will also be reconstructed.The reconstruction of the Arkhangelsk airport was launched in 2022. The runway was renovated during the first stage, and a new passenger pavilion was built, allowing the airport to handle 400 passengers per hour.“We have received a modern aviation infrastructure which directly influences flight safety, Pomorye has become more accessible, the tourism industry and business ties are expanding, and local standards of living are improving,” the Arkhangelsk Region Governor said.The upgraded bridge across the Vozhdoromka River will facilitate more reliable and safer traffic between the region and other Far North territories. According to the press service of the Arkhangelsk Regional Government, the renovated bridge and road will make it possible to reduce the duration of trips, will facilitate more sustained passenger and freight traffic, as well as timely freight deliveries. The bridge and the motorway will also help expand the economy and tourist potential of northern territories of the Arkhangelsk Region.
