Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak held a working meeting with Governor of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area (YNAA) Dmitry Artyukhov. The officials discussed the region’s socioeconomic achievements and production of hard-to-recover hydrocarbon reserves, governmental press service reports.
According to Mr Artyukhov, Yamal is one of national leaders in key socioeconomic indices, including low unemployment levels and stably high incomes.
“However, we see high birthrates as our most important indicator. Last year, the total fertility rate here amounted to 2.0, which puts us in the third place on the national scale,” he said.
In addition, YNAA remains in the lead investment-wise, with the local investment level exceeding 1 trillion rubles for five years at a stretch.
The officials also discussed the region’s proposals on incentivizing the production of hard-to-recover gas reserves, including in the fields located in the Nadym-Pur-Tazovsky area. In 2025, Yamal produced 500 billion cubic meters of gas, 39 million tons of oil, and 32 million tons of gas condensate.
As of today, the region accounts for 80 percent of national natural gas production, 67 percent of LNG output, and 78 percent of freight turnover on the Northern Sea Route.
