A meeting of the Council of Northern Sea Route (NSR) Shipping Participants took place to discuss current issues related to the effective development of the NSR, according to Rosatom’s press service.
Its participants addressed the construction of high ice-class cargo vessels and coordination efforts in preparation for the 2026–2027 navigation season in the eastern sector of the Northern Sea Route.
As Vladimir Panov, Rosatom’s Special Representative for Arctic Development, noted, accurate and up-to-date information on ice conditions is essential for planning NSR routes. Russia’s space constellation, which is already operational, is expected to play a key role in this effort.

“The information is already being transmitted to us in test mode. In the future, all data will be integrated into a unified digital services platform as quickly as possible, enabling monitoring of the entire Northern Sea Route. This will fundamentally transform the approach to navigation along the route, including in its eastern sector,” he said.

In conclusion of the Council meeting, its participants noted the importance of including representatives of the Roscosmos State Corporation in the agenda of the next session to have detailed and comprehensive uprade about the satellite constellation and its potential applications in support of NSR shipping.
