A transport and logistic cluster in the Trans-Baikal Territory will facilitate freight transshipments totaling 14 million metric tons with China. Produce of the agro-industrial sector will account for about eight million metric tons, and freight shipments of other categories will total an additional six million metric tons, as per the official website of the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy in the Far Eastern Federal District.The cluster is being established four kilometers from the border with Manchuria and will develop in accordance with a three-stage concept. The leadership of the company informed Russian Deputy Prime Minister - Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy in the Far Eastern Federal District, Yury Trutnev, about the project’s implementation.The Trans-Baikal grain terminal was built during the first stage. This is the first ground-based grain terminal in Russia and the largest in Eurasia; it can annually handle up to eight million metric tons of grain. Its infrastructure helps resolve the problem of different railway gauges in Russia and China; the facility has five tracks with a width of 1,520 and 1,435 mmThe terminal was built at the territory of advanced development ‘Zabaikalye’. The Russian Government’s resolution of May 8, 2026 expanded the territory’s boundaries for implementing the second stage of the project, specifically, construction of a multi-modal transport and logistic center with a container terminal.The territory’s expansion became an essential pre-condition for implementing the project. The investor is planning to use the existing grain terminal infrastructure and to involve part of the active workforce for reducing the volume of capital expenditures.The transport and logistic hub’s storage capacities will be expanded during the third stage.The companies have already invested over 20 billion rubles’ worth of their own corporate assets into their projects, and they have created over 300 jobs. An additional 250 specialists will be hired as soon as the terminal attains design capacity.
