On May 21-23, Ulan-Ude, the capital of the Republic of Buryatia, hosted the International Forum of Creative Industries Made in the Far East: From Content to Capital.
Attending the forum were representatives of ten foreign countries and 43 Russian regions; almost 35,000 people visited Ulan-Ude.
Over 200 events were held during the forum, including plenary sessions, sectoral discussions, masterclasses, workshops, pitch-ins, an international media market, an art market and educational tracks.

“We find it very important to be able to gather at least once a year in this lineup, to look each other in the eye, to talk, to exchange ideas and emotions, to become inspired and to agree on some new projects. The 2026 forum proved not just productive in the context of communications and emotions but also very substantive,” Deputy Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic Elvira Nurgaliyeva said, as she thanked the forum’s organizers and participants.

Agreements worth over 30 billion rubles and stipulating the implementation of infrastructure, tourism and creative projects in the Far Eastern Federal District were signed; and this became one of the forum’s main results.
During the forum, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic supported a concept for renovating a significant trade and commercial facility in the historical center of Ulan-Ude. Built in 1839, it is called the Rows of Stores.
The Rows of Stores became a key element of the city’s master plan. According to Grigory Solomin, the author of the Ulan-Ude master plan, it is important to redirect tourist flows which now move transit to Lake Baikal via Ulan-Ude toward the city’s historical center. This will contribute greatly to economic development and will encourage entrepreneurial activities.

“We already provide support, finance improvements and overhauls. < … > I would like to call on the managing company, the ministry of tourism, the municipality and the regional government to summon up fresh energy and willpower and to complete the project in line with the master plan’s logic,” Elvira Nurgaliyeva said in conclusion.

The Amtatai food festival took place during the forum of creative industries and combined the traditional Buryat cuisine with modern gastronomic projects.

“Amtatai is not just a feast for food connoisseurs but also an important booster of economic development. A tasty economy makes everything tick. Our cafés and restaurants profit greatly from thousands of the republic’s residents and guests,” Head of the Republic Alexei Tsydenov noted.

Those attending the food festival were invited to make a traditional Buryat dish called Buuz, a kind of large dumplings, that symbolizes the traditional hospitality of the republic. Celebrities, including film directors Fyodor Bondarchuk and Alexei Chadov, took part in making the dumplings. In all, those attending the masterclass were able to prepare 1,000 Buuz dumplings and thus set a new nationwide record.
