The demand for rare metals in high-tech industries remains high, which is why a raw materials and production basis is being developed with state support to supply quality raw materials for science-intensive projects, reads a press release of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.Deputy Minister Anton Basansky has pointed out that, based on several qualitative parameters, the relevant deposits in the Far East and the Arctic are better than similar fields in Russia and outside it.“Taken together with the unique mechanisms of state support applied in our macro-regions, this ensures strong competitive advantages for the Russian rare metals mining and processing industry. We are working in accordance with the President’s instructions to create a new preferential regime for the Far East and the Arctic that will prioritize support for high-tech projects, including with regard to rare metals,” the deputy minister said at the opening ceremony of Rosatom’s RAREMET 2026 International Congress on Rare Metals, Materials and Related Technologies, held at MIREA Russian Technological University. One of the development options provides for creating a rare-earth deep processing cluster in the Murmansk Region based on several local deposits. In addition, new support measures will be approved for geologists, metallurgists, materials scientists, technologists and engineers at the mining, processing and production facilities that are under construction in the Far East and the Arctic. This includes the creation of the necessary infrastructure.
