Murmansk Region Governor Andrei Chibis met with Novaport Holding General Director Yevgeny Yankilevich to discuss plans for modernizing the airport facility in Murmansk, as per the press service of the regional government.“The ongoing development of the airport, including the reconstruction of its old terminal, is a top priority issue. We are also working on a project to reconstruct the ramp within the federal project with appropriate funding. Our next task is to overhaul the runway,” the head of the region noted. The Governor added that the Government of the Murmansk Region would continue to heavily subsidize air traffic, while the management of the holding company and of the airport should make sure that all of the airport’s processes are running smoothly.“The airport is the region’s visiting card. Arriving passengers and our residents leaving on business trips or vacations see cleanliness and user-friendly processes as something important. Please make sure that everything functions with clockwork efficiency,” Andrei Chibis stressed. In turn, Evgeny Yankilevich noted the growth of passenger traffic at Murmansk Airport: currently, up to 1.5 million people are served annually, which has a positive impact on the region's tourist attractiveness. It is therefore necessary to start building the second stage of the terminal.“Murmansk is renowned for its sufficiently adverse climatic and geological conditions, and it is therefore necessary to synchronize construction of the terminal’s second stage and the reconstruction of the ramp for installing additional passenger boarding bridges,” he added.Construction of the terminal’s second stage will commence in early 2027, Yevgeny Yankilevich said.“As the main network connections have been completed during the first stage, we hope that the second stage will be built more quickly, and in 2029, the terminal will become fully operational,” Yevgeny Yankilevich noted.
