Security outpost: Arctic integrated emergency and rescue center opens in Yamal
The establishment of the center is envisaged under the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and National Security through 2035, approved by Vladimir Putin. The facility has been equipped with all necessary infrastructure to enable rescuers to perform their duties effectively while ensuring comfortable living and working conditions in the harsh Arctic environment.
According to the press service of the Russian Minister for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Natural Disaster Relief, the Arctic center is equipped with Burlak all-terrain vehicles – domestically produced amphibious snow-and-swamp transport vehicles specifically designed for the ministry’s northern operations. This equipment is expected to significantly improve emergency response time in remote areas of the Far North. Specialists at the center have also received advanced diving equipment designed for Arctic conditions.
“The Arctic center, equipped with the cutting-edge rescue technology and equipment, will serve as a security outpost for the Yamal Peninsula and significantly strengthen the protection of people and territories across the Arctic and the Northern Sea Route,” Minister Alexander Kurenkov said during the opening ceremony.
In turn, Yamal Governor Dmitry Artyukhov emphasized that the new rescue center and its personnel form an essential part of the broader Arctic development program.
“We are steadily advancing both emergency rescue services and Arctic medicine. This demonstrates that even under difficult economic conditions, the objectives set by the President are being fulfilled consistently and on schedule,” he noted.
It is also reported that the center will work closely with the emergency medical unit of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency of the Russian Federation.
“We conduct joint exercises with the Emergencies Ministry, which have enabled us to organize coordinated work. Most importantly, every citizen working in these difficult conditions, as well as their family members, can be confident they will receive timely, high-quality medical care,” Head of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency Veronika Skvortsova emphasized.
