The Russian Guard conducted a special tactical exercise in the Sakhalin Region under the guidance of Commander of the Russian National Guard’s Eastern District Lieutenant General Alexander Reshetnikov and Regional Governor Valery Limarenko, as per the press service of the Russian National Guard’s Eastern District.Under the exercise scenario, the participants had to subdue armed criminals at a water transport facility, to locate and neutralize groups of saboteurs who tried to infiltrate a fuel and energy enterprise. The participants also conducted a simulated special operation to free hostages inside a building and to prevent large-scale violations of law and order. The interregional involvement was the exercise’s key distinguishing feature. It involved officers from the Khabarovsk and Primorye territorial special police and combined rapid response units, as well as representatives of regional Federal Security Service, Interior Ministry, Federal Penitentiary Service divisions and the Border Directorate of the Russian Federal Security Service.“Over 80 percent of our personnel were involved in checking the combat readiness of the regional Russian Guard Directorate. Forces and resources from other Russian territories took part in the Sakhalin exercise for the first time,” sources at the press service of the Sakhalin Regional Directorate of the Russian Federal National Guard Troops Service told Arctic.ru.The organizers used a combined tactic which made it possible to achieve maximum combat cohesion between units in an unfamiliar environment.“The unique status of Sakhalin as the country’s only insular region motivated the special complexity of exercise objectives. An isolated territory, adverse weather conditions and rugged terrain required the participants to display tremendous concentration,” sources at the press service of the Sakhalin Regional Directorate of the Russian Federal National Guard Troops Service added.During the exercise, the personnel established stable inter-unit communications under radio-electronic warfare and rugged terrain. They also streamlined mutual logistics during the rapid redeployment of forces and resources.Despite extremely difficult objectives, all phases of the special tactical exercises were completed in full. The actions of the units and control target received a positive assessment.
