Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic Alexei Chekunkov discussed entrepreneurship in Russia’s Arctic Zone, current government support measures, and new business tools during the meeting, the government press service reported.According to the minister, total investment attracted to the region amounts to 2.8 trillion rubles. The Arctic zone’s share of the country’s gross regional product (GRP) is 5.9 percent.Currently, more than 1,100 investment projects are being implemented in the Arctic using government support mechanisms, with 365 facilities already in operation. Approximately 22,000 jobs have been created in the region today, and that number is expected to exceed 60,000 in the future.“The Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation has created conditions for projects of all scales – from local initiatives to large-scale high-tech projects in mining, gas chemicals, transportation, and energy. These projects contribute to national development goals, economic growth, and improving people’s quality of life,” the press service reported.Furthermore, a law is being developed to establish a unified preferential regime for the Far East and the Arctic, creating a common legal framework with a single set of benefits and requirements. This will simplify project selection and speed up their launch.
