Deputy Prime Minister – Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev held a meeting on the socioeconomic development of the Chukotka Autonomous Area in Anadyr, reads a release of the envoy’s press service.
Yury Trutnev said that Chukotka is a complicated region with a harsh climate that is difficult for life and the implementation of investment projects. However, state support measures have contributed to its economic growth.

“State support measures have been allocated to 101 investment projects worth 1.3 trillion rubles in total, the fourth largest figure in the Far Eastern Federal District. Overall, 511 billion rubles have been invested, 54 projects have been completed, and over 9,200 jobs have been created. The industrial production index in Chukotka has increased by 6.8 percent in 2025. This is a high indicator for Russia and the Far East,” Trutnev said.

He added that the average monthly wage growth rate was nearly 15 percent, which is also higher than the average for Russia and the Far East.

“The economic growth rate in Chukotka is higher than the average for Russia and the Far East,” the envoy stated during the meeting.

The key priorities discussed at the meeting included measures to improve the quality of education and medical services. This year, a Nomadic Kindergarten project was launched in Chukotka, and the regional authorities are working together with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education to establish Chukotka State Arctic Research University. Projects to build a mental health clinic and a children’s and adults’ outpatient clinic in Anadyr are at the design stage, and there are plans to renovate a hospital in Beringovsky.
Governor of the Chukotka Autonomous Area Vladislav Kuznetsov mentioned the region’s focus on improving the quality of life and supporting families. A regional program to increase the birth rate was launched in 2023, and a new support measure initiated this year stipulates a one-off payment of 25,000 rubles for the women who have given birth to their children in Chukotka.
“Having children is a clear sign that people feel comfortable here and are ready to work and bring up their children in Chukotka,” the governor said.
Chukotka holds first place in the Far Eastern Federal District and sixth place in Russia in terms of total fertility rate. The number of large families has increased to 1,268. Chukotka holds first place in the Far Eastern Federal District and eighth place in Russia by the third and subsequent children birth rate.
The meeting participants also discussed transport and logistics projects, including the project to build a transport and logistics hub in the port of Provideniya, which is in the works. The region is also renovating its airport network. This year, new terminals will open in the airports of Keperveyem (June) and Pevek (this fall).
