Yury Trutnev meets with investors in the Trans-Baikal Territory
Deputy Prime Minister – Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy in the Far Eastern Federal District, Yury Trutnev, chaired a meeting on the implementation of major investment projects in the Trans-Baikal Territory. During the meeting, Trutnev reviewed new and current projects in the mining industry, logistics and energy, as per the press service of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.
Trutnev noted the impressive investment potential of the Trans-Baikal Territory.
“The region contains over 100 types of strategically important minerals, including uranium ores, copper, gold, tungsten, silver, bismuth and many others. Studied reserves of over 500 solid-state mineral deposits in the Trans-Baikal Territory account for over ten percent of nationwide deposits. The region which borders on China and Mongolia is quite attractive in terms of developing logistic hubs. Transport and logistic centers are being established in border areas,” he added.
During the meeting, Trutnev discussed shortages of power-generating facilities, a common problem facing the Trans-Baikal Territory and the entire Far Eastern Federal District.
“The Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic and the Ministry of Energy are doing everything possible to solve this problem; a program for developing the power industry of the Far Eastern Federal District until 2030 is being drafted. To provide the Trans-Baikal Territory with enough electricity, there are plans to commission a new power-generating facility at the Kharanorskaya State District Power Plant by 2029 and to build the Zabailalskaya Thermal Power Plant by 2031,” Trutnev noted.
The meeting participants also discussed the future of a project to establish a transport and logistic hub under a concession agreement in the town of Zabaikalsk. Trutnev was also briefed on a project to set up an unmanned transborder container delivery system between Russia and China. Its annual capacity is to reach ten million metric tons. The system boasts a number of advantages; it is safe, quick and highly productive.

For example, there are plans to establish a large-scale production facility and to modernize the infrastructure at the Beryozovsky iron ore deposit. It is intended to increase the production facility’s annual capacity to ten million metric tons over a period of eight years.
“We will continue to support investors in implementing their projects which help develop the Trans-Baikal Territory and the entire Far East,” Trutnev said in conclusion.
