Far Eastern scientists, fishermen and regulators discussed the outcomes of pollock fishing, the forecast of salmon fishing and new industry guidelines. According to the press service of the Primorye Territory Government, Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Ilya Shestakov chaired a meeting of the Far Eastern Basin Scientific and Industrial Council in Vladivostok.During the meeting, its participants mentioned the main industry indices: the pollock fishing season accounts for more than 40 percent of the total catch in the Far East. From January through April, 75.9 percent of the total allowable pollock catch was harvested, leaving 244,400 tons for October through December. The average daily catch in the Sea of Okhotsk for the first four months was 7,700 tons.The Kamchatka and Khabarovsk territories as well as the Sakhalin Region remain the leaders in fishing.Deputy Prime Minister of the Primorye Territory’s Government Kirill Khizhinsky believes that this regional industry shows a favorable trend. Primorye fishermen are prepared to be the first in the Far East to begin the fishing season: pink salmon and masu fishing begins on May 20.

Far Eastern scientists, fishermen and regulators discussed the outcomes of pollock fishing, the forecast of salmon fishing and new industry guidelines. According to the press service of the Primorye Territory Government, Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Ilya Shestakov chaired a meeting of the Far Eastern Basin Scientific and Industrial Council in Vladivostok.
“Last year we achieved a record catch of pollock of 2.2 million tons. We have a good forecast for iwashi and saury in the future. We need to master these kinds of fishing. It is very important for the fishermen to get organized and set out on this kind of fishing. The ships are already being upgraded and prepared for catching saury. According to scientific forecasts, saury will enter our economic zone and the catch may amount to hundreds of thousands tons,” said Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Ilya Shestakov.

“In general, the industry shows worthy results. In 2025, the catch of the Primorye companies made up 886,000 tons. The corporate turnover reached 160 billion rubles and taxes to the Territory’s budget – 10 billion rubles,” he underscored.
