An unnamed cape is situated on the southwestern coast of Bolshevik Island within the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago. The initiative, proposed by the Rosatom State Corporation, has garnered the endorsement of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, according to the parliamentary press service.
The documentation is scheduled to be submitted to the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography for expert appraisal.
“The development of the Arctic has been – and continues to be – a key element of our national strategy, particularly in light of the current geopolitical landscape. Preserving the name of the legendary Yuri Kuchiev on the map of the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago will inspire new generations of polar explorers and underscore the historical continuity in the development and expansion of the Northern Sea Route,” affirmed Alexei Dodatko, chairman of the territorial parliament.
It is further noted that in 2025, the petition received approval from the Taimyrsky Dolgano-Nenetsky District Council of Deputies. The initiative also received backing from the governor and the government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, as well as from museums of local lore at both the territorial and Taimyr levels.
