The project has already been accepted at state level in China; this concerns such parameters as visual perception accuracy by an unmanned truck, its reliable emergency braking, the ability to operate in cold weather and the effectiveness of interacting with customs checkpoints, as per the official channel of the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy in the Far Eastern Federal District.
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Ties and Tourism of the Amur Region, Yekaterina Kireyeva, noted that the region was implementing an experimental legal regime, stipulated by a government resolution. The Russian Ministry of Transport has established an interdepartmental working group on unmanned vehicles.
The unmanned trucks project is implemented in accordance with an international concession model similar to the Blagoveshchensk – Heihe vehicle bridge.
Unmanned vehicles will cross the border more quickly and will guarantee stable traffic in subzero temperatures and poor visibility on motorways. These vehicles are expected to be 20 percent more cost-effective.
