The drone has been deployed by the Road Patrol Service to help improve road safety. It is operated by inspectors who completed a Ground Control Operator training course at Amur State University, according to the regional government’s press service.
The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) will be used to patrol regional and federal highways. This modern system helps monitor traffic and infrastructure from the air. Drone images and video allow specialists to assess the condition of the road surface, including road markings, monitor roadside lighting, check the condition of shoulders and adjacent areas, and identify accident-prone zones and potential traffic violations.
Based on this data, specialists can make decisions about repairing road surfaces, installing road signs, imposing speed limits, or taking other immediate measures to address road hazards. Traffic violations identified during monitoring will be forwarded to the State Traffic Inspectorate.

“We received a specially calibrated device from Moscow. All the systems required for monitoring are functioning normally. I would like to ask residents and visitors to the region not to be afraid of our device. We try to keep the flight radius small so that a road patrol vehicle is visible. If you see a patrol vehicle, it means we’re nearby monitoring the roads,” said Dmitry Rudenko, head of the Road Patrol Service.

Similar unmanned systems have long been used in various regions and have proven successful.
