Murmansk airbase staff drilled rappelling from Mil Mi-8 helicopter, Press Service of the Murmansk Region’s Government reports.Fast rappelling skills will come in handy when woodlands in the Polar area are in need of protection from wildfires. Local people will require identical security as well.The drill involved 60 smoke-jumpers, air unit personnel, experienced instructors, and new recruits. Qualifying at this stage, the latter will be allowed to join firefighting operations in remote and hard-of-access areas.The air drill confirmed the personnel’s readiness for an emergency response in a fire-hazard environment.
