This will make it possible to give a correct definition to the project’s goals, objectives and structure, Sergei Vakhrukov, head of the Directorate on National Maritime Policy Issues at the Presidential Executive Office and Deputy Chair of the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation told the “NSR and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor: Establishing Russia’s New Logistical Axis” panel discussion held as part of the International Transport and Logistical Forum.
According to Mr. Vakhrukov, the concept gave rise to long debates but they chose the one that would be included in the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and Provision of National Security.

“The Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor is a system of transport routes, including the Northern Sea Route and related inland waterways and transport infrastructure facilities, aimed at a comprehensive development of the territory of the Arctic Zone and the Russian Far East, the cargo base, as well as internal international transit carriage of freight and passengers along the Russian Federation’s coast,” Sergei Vakhrukov read out the definition.

This wording will help to formulate correctly the project’s goals, objectives and structure.
“This high-profile project of global importance for Russia is part of a systemic approach to developing the territory of the Russian Federation. This is the main goal of this project,” Mr Vakhrukov stressed.
He underscored the importance of the Arctic and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor constituting a comprehensive system of interlinked projects.
