An autonomous satellite communications hub has been deployed at kilometer 529 of the highway in the locality of Cholbon, Verkhoyansky District, one of the busiest sections of the route. The development was reported by the Ministry of Digital Development and Telecommunication Technologies of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
The new facility will provide drivers and passengers with reliable mobile communications and internet access in this remote region.
The hub is equipped with shortwave communication systems, enabling rapid contact with emergency dispatch services and facilitating timely response in critical situations.
“Developing resilient communications infrastructure in Arctic territories is a strategic priority. Projects like this enhance public safety, enable faster emergency response, and lay the groundwork for further digitalization of remote areas,” said Pyotr Nikolayev, the regional Minister of Innovation, Digital Development, and Telecommunication Technologies.
According to the minister, the project will be implemented in stages, with plans to extend communications coverage to as many winter roads and hard-to-reach areas across Yakutia as possible.
