Airborne fire service personnel using roping technique to descend from a Mi-8 helicopter
Overall, 52 people were involved in the drills, which consisted of 96 hours of theory training plus tower training and roping from a helicopter, reads a press release of the Kamchatka Territory government.
“This practical training is held every year in conditions that accurately simulate real life. The entire staff of the airborne fire service took part in the drills, including experienced personnel and the new staff recruited this year following the establishment of the Olyutorsky Air Branch in Tilichiki,” Deputy Minister of Forestry and Hunting of the Kamchatka Territory Yelena Domysheva stated.
The drills included using special devices to descent from a helicopter hovering 10 to 40 meters above ground. Before that, the personnel had a theoretical course and tower training. The drills also involved observer pilots who supervised the operation from inside the helicopter.
