The document stipulates the modernization of the local seaport and the airport infrastructure; there are plans to decommission the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant and to replace it with another power-generating facility, to build housing, to establish public and business spaces and to develop the urban environment. This will help expand the gross city product, to create over 4,000 jobs and to improve living standards in adverse weather conditions, as per the press service of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic(Minvostokrazvitiya).Director of the Department for Developing the Russian Arctic Zone and Implementing Infrastructure Projects at Minvostokrazvitiya, Ilya Chernov, noted that the creation of the joint Pevek - Bilibino agglomeration was a high-priority objective of the master plan. A long-term comprehensive development plan which has been drafted for this purpose will receive 124.4 billion rubles’ worth of funding, including 48.3 billion rubles from the budget.Key projects aim to modernize the infrastructure, to build more housing, to enhance the transport connectivity of territories and to establish a public and business environment. High-priority goals include construction of new residential areas in Pevek and Bilibino, the establishment of a multi-functional government services center with public and commercial spaces and a project for overhauling Keperveyem airport and the expansion of the local road network, including sections of the Kolyma – Omsukchan – Omolon – Anadyr motorway.This year, there are plans to complete multiple high-priority projects, including the renovation of the airport infrastructure in Pevek, the first stage of a housing and utilities modernization project in Bilibino, improving the city’s waterfront and public spaces.
