During the training exercise, the National Guard personnel tracked down and arrested saboteurs in the Far North; they prioritized joint search-and-rescue missions with the Emergencies Ministry, according to the agency’s press service.The two-stage exercise includes a crash course on avalanche sensors and probes operation. Soldiers repaired snowmobiles in field, conducted forced marches, performed maneuvers, scaled rugged terrain in sleds and recovered stuck equipment.During the second stage of the Arctic exercise, they ventured into the mountains for two days, spent the night in igloos, braved super-low temperatures, administered first aid to frostbite cases and treated injuries that are usually sustained during snowmobile trips. Small teams searched for injured persons, evacuated them and crossed avalanche-prone sections using modern navigation systems.At the end of the second stage, recue teams had to locate people in an area where Russian Guard task force group was tracking down a group of armed saboteurs. They reached the preset area on foot and on snowmobiles. At the end of the exercise, the participants jointly located injured persons and evacuated them in the harsh polar environment.
