Russian plants and shipyardsare building 11 salvage-and-rescue vessels for operations in the northern latitudes with support from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT), the Ministry of Transport (MT), and the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport (Rosmorrechflot), Deputy Director of the MIT Regional Industrial Policy Department Andrei Zaitsev told the 11th Scientific and Practical Conference “The Russian Far East and the Arctic: Sustainable Development.”
According to Mr.Zaitsev, the Northern Sea Route and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor require additional security precautions for their development. Five multi-role Arc4 ice-class salvage-and-rescue vessels were supplied between 2024 and 2025.
He added that the growing NSR freight flow was giving an impetus to ship-repair services. By 2035, it is planned to boost the annual volume of ship-repair services by more than 200 percent and build up the NSR’s relevant capacities by more than 100 percent.
