The service will operate newly-bought state-of-the-art equipment. Rescue workers are in the process of learning the ropes during regular spill removal drills, as reported by the press service of the Chukotka Autonomous Area’s Government.
The need for this unit is long overdue, given the rapid advance of industries, increased freight haulage, and this Arctic region’s specifics that requires a rapid response to emergencies, Oleg Goncharov, acting head of the local Civil Defense and Fire Fighting Department, said.
In late March 2026, the local fuel and energy sector facilities will hold drills enabling the service to be officially authorized to conduct emergency rescue operations.
