In the course of a three-year project launched in 2023, Russian researchers repeated the route of Konstantin Deryugin, a hydrobiologist who studied the White Sea from 1922 to 1926.During their travel scientists managed to discover at the bottom of the sea a new species of the scaleworm, which is much smaller than the previously known species. Moreover, they discovered new sponge species.According to scientists a lot of other discovered species require a thorough DNA analysis because they look very much alike.Based on the finds the researchers have concluded that 100 years later the White Sea is in a stable condition.
