The new environmentally friendly process for extracting rare platinum metals using hydrochloric acid and oxygen (under high pressure) can replace the previous complicated and toxic production method, according to the Krasnoyarsk territorial press service. It is possible to quickly introduce this process at production facilities with titanium equipment. This opens up new opportunities for strengthening the country’s technological sovereignty.“The production process accomplishes several objectives; it reduces losses of precious metals, eliminates the need for recycling harmful gases and make it possible to involve valuable waste in economic operations, while reducing dependence on extracting new amounts of resource,” project manager Oleg Belousov, DSc (Chemistry), noted.
