The Government of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area will pay compensations to local organizations for equipping or re-equipping permanent workplaces for individuals belonging to the small-numbered indigenous peoples of the North (SIPN), Governor Ruslan Kukharuk reports. “We are expanding the currently effective employer support measure provided as a compensation of expenses amounting to up to 100,000 rubles on equipping or re-equipping a permanent workplace, including for individuals from among the small-numbered indigenous peoples of the North. This decision will help to boost employment rates among the indigenous residents and facilitate their employment in areas of traditional residency, something that accords with the Concept of Sustainable Development of the Small-Numbered Indigenous Peoples of the North,” he said.Yugra is the area of residency for over 30,000 members of the SIPN, including the Khanty, the Mansi, and the Nenets. They constitute about 2 percent of the total population in the region (over 1.7 million people). Approximately 4,500 of them lead a traditional way of life.
