Oil & Gas

The Arctic contains a wealth of petroleum and mineral resources. Currently, the region produces about one tenth of the world's oil and a quarter of its natural gas. The Russian Arctic is the source for about 80 percent of this oil and virtually all of the natural gas; Arctic Canada, Alaska, and Norway are the other leading producers. Recent appraisals suggest that a considerable fraction of the world's undiscovered petroleum reserves lie within the Arctic.

This year, local farmers planted 20 percent more crops on 2024, according to the official website of the Trans-Baikal Territory.

Most crops have been planted in the Priargunsky District, covering an area of 4,000 hectares. Farmers in the Ulyotovsky District have reactivated 3,200 hectares of unused land plots. Virgin-lands with an area of 2,600 hectares have been plowed up in the Sretensky District. Farmland was also developed in the Nerchinsky, Chernyshevsky and Shilkinsky districts.

Seven farms in six municipal entities have received 36.2 million rubles’ worth of budgetary funding as compensation for their fieldwork.
