Collection of Yukagir riddles published in Yakutia

The book titled Guess the Riddles of My People was written by teachers and students of Yakut schools ahead of the International Mother Language Day and in accordance with a Yakutia-Mexico cooperation project. The book was translated into Russian, English, Spanish and Nahuatl, the native language of the Aztec nation, as per the press service of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Extended reality (XR) technologies allow readers to listen to the Yukagir language and to become immersed in the tundra atmosphere.

The book continues a partnership between indigenous small -numbered peoples in Yakutia and Mexico. Under the first joint project, the partners published a collection of riddles, proverbs and tongue-twisters in the Dolgan, Even, Evenk, Tundra Yukagir and Yakut languages.

Northern ethnic groups living near the Arctic Ocean coast speak Yukagir, one of the oldest languages in the world. Today, it is spoken by fewer than 2,000 people.
