Over 4,000 specialists should be attracted to Arctic zone in Karelia before 2032

This conclusion follows from the new forecast of personnel training needs for 2026–2032, prepared by the republican Labor and Employment Department. The forecast provides detailed personnel requirements in six northern districts contained in Karelia’s  Arctic zone.

The basic need is more than 2,500 skilled labor for industry, agriculture, transport and services. The most acute shortage is in nurses, drivers, cooks, engineers and teachers.

“The forecast for Arctic territories is our strategic reference point. It makes it possible not only to register current shortages, but also to train personnel in advance for specific investment projects and development objectives of the northern districts providing for their stable future,” said head of the Karelian Labor and Employment Department Yelena Frolova.

The forecast lays a special emphasis on the personnel needs of the entities implementing or planning investment projects in Arctic zone. For 2026-2032, the shortage is estimated at 1,192 people, of whom 1,046 are qualified personnel.
