General Staff reports on security measures in the Arctic
The Armed Forces of Russia are working systematically to ensure security in the Arctic, where NATO is building up its military presence, according to Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov.
“The destructive activities of the United States and other NATO countries are gathering momentum in the Arctic. Seeking to ensure their domination in the region, they are increasing their military presence in the high latitudes and developing the relevant military infrastructure near the borders of the Russian Federation,” Gerasimov stated at a briefing for military attachés.
He said that these actions, aimed at coordinating the anti-Russia efforts of the Alliance and its partners in the Arctic, increased tensions and the possibility of a conflict.
“Our reply actions taken to ensure Russia’s security include systematic work to enhance the combat ability of our Armed Forces and modernize our military facilities in the North,” the Chief of the General Staff concluded.
