New domestic flights terminal opens at Murmansk airport
The 7,500 square meter terminal handles up to 400 passengers per hour, or 100 percent more than the old facility, according to the press service of the Murmansk Region’s Government.
“For the Murmansk Region, this airport is not just a transport facility. It is a powerful driver of development that increases the region’s connectivity with the rest of the country and emphasizes its special role in in the development of the Russian Arctic,” Governor Andrei Chibis wrote on his Telegram account.
The building’s façade shows the Khibiny mountain range, the largest on the Kola Peninsula, as well as simulated Northern Lights. Construction of the new terminal was launched in 2023, and the entire project cost 4.7 billion rubles.
According to the Murmansk Region Governor, passenger traffic volumes are soaring, and the new terminal will make it possible to attract more tourists. In 2024, the region received 761,000 visitors, an all-time high whereas 507,500 tourists flocked here in January through September 2025.
