Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area fishing companies in for higher subsidies
Subsidies for one metric ton of fish, caught in the area, will soar by 13 percent and reach 136,000 rubles. Companies should spend at least 60 percent of their subsidies on remuneration and social deductions, according to the press service of the regional government.
“In our activities, we are guided by the need to fulfil three conditions. First, it is necessary to provide Yamal residents with fish. Second, fishermen should receive stable and worthy salaries. Third, we must preserve fish reserves for posterity,” said Andrei Rubashkin, Director of the area’s Agro-Industrial Sector Development Department.
The steps based on fishermen’s proposals prioritize support for the traditional fisheries for nomads. The amendments will come into effect on January 1, 2026.
