First Mother Language Reading Center opens in Yakutia

The center was established at a model library in the Tomponsky District during a ten-day event popularizing the Yakut language and script, as per the press service of the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

The project aims to more actively involve the younger generation in reading literary works in the Yakut language and to enhance this interest.

Earlier, Head of the Republic Aisen Nikolayev noted that it was very important to involve little children in studying mother languages.

“I have instructed the concerned officials to compile textbooks for studying mother languages in accordance with federal standards, to supply books in mother languages to local libraries and to establish centers for popularizing books for children and ethnic-cultural education projects at rural and municipal libraries,” he said.
