Nomadic Kindergarten educational project launched in Chukotka

The pilot program was started in the village of Amguema to support reindeer herders’ children: it will let them get ready for school without leaving their usual cultural environment, according to the press service of the Chukotka Autonomous Area Government.

“It is crucially important for children of the tundra to grow up in harmony, receiving current knowledge and quality preparation for school without parting with their parents and roots,” noted the region Governor Vladislav Kuznetsov.

Deputy Governor and Head of the Chukotka Education and Science Department Aryuna Baikova said that the reindeer herders’ children will be provided with special sets of educational, learning materials and teachers will remotely render their guidance support.

“Special attention will be given to health: each pupil will have a balanced set of foodstuffs,” she added.

There are plans to apply the programme experience in other reindeer herders’ teams in the region with a view to preserve unique traditions of indigenous peoples and raise the quality of their life at that.
