English-language edition of one and only nomadic Northern author’s book published
Titled White Reindeer Moss, the book tells the story of a Nenets teenager’s love for a girl who has left her home parts and relocated to a city; it reflects the customs, traditions and lifestyle of the Nenets ethnic group, as per the press service of the Association of Russian Book Publishers.
It took over 12 months to complete the book, Sergei Simakov, a representative of the Association of Russian Book Publishers for the Urals and West Siberia, noted.
“In the past ten years, the Association regularly nominated Anna Nerkagi for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Our painstaking efforts made it possible to publish her works in Spain, Germany and Italy. And, finally, Pushkin Press, a publishing house in London, published her book in English,” he added.
Irina Sadovina who translates from the Russian and Mari languages worked on the edition. In 2025, she visited the nomadic camp of Anna Nerkagi in the Baidaratskaya tundra as part of her work.
There are plans to publish the book in the United States this coming April and to conduct a lecture tour promoting it in Canada.
