Yugra upgrades state support system for indigenous peoples of the North

Small indigenous peoples of the North will be reimbursed for accommodation expenses, while learning how to safely handle weapons, to drive Category A self-propelled vehicles and small vessels, in case vocational training was outside the areas of their permanent residence, as per the press service of the Legislature of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area - Yugra.

Legal entities and individuals, affiliated with local small indigenous peoples of the North, will be subsidized for game being hunted by them and also for improving land plots to be used for traditional farming projects. They will be reimbursed for purchasing equipment and reindeer, for paying utility bills during the procurement and processing of traditional agricultural produce. Young specialists working in traditional residential areas and traditional economic sectors are eligible for lump sum payments, while settling down.

“This new state support measure envisions financial support for reindeer breeders who will use this money to maintain reindeer populations. This is done to increase reindeer populations and the number of reindeer breeders wishing to lead a traditional lifestyle,” Yugra Duma Speaker Boris Khokhryakov noted.
