Additional federal funding for nomadic reindeer herders in the Krasnoyarsk Territory
In 2026, nomadic reindeer herders will be issued solar panels under the program of government support for the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North (ISPN), reads a press release of the local Agency for the Development of Northern Territories and ISPN Support.
“Supporting reindeer herding is a strategic task aimed at preserving the traditional lifestyle of indigenous small-numbered peoples. Modern technology will help improve productivity, strengthen the economy and create conditions for the sustainable development of reindeer farms,” agency head Anton Narchuganov stated.
The program of these farms’ technical modernization and development for 2027 includes the provision of drones for searching for and registering stray reindeer, the modernization of the snowmobile pool for nomad settlements, the protection of herds, the delivery of food and veterinary services, the supply of all-terrain vehicles for delivering cargo and basic necessities to difficult-to-access regions, as well as the continued provision of solar panels to reindeer herders.
