Moscow conference to address the development of the Far East and Arctic

One of the key topics at the 11th International Scientific and Practical Conference, The Far East and the Arctic: Sustainable Development, will be the development of proposals for a new strategy for the Russian Far East until 2030. This was announced by Sakhamin Afanasiev, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs, during a news conference ahead of the event.

The senator highlighted the conference’s practical importance, noting that it brings together representatives from federal and regional authorities, parliamentarians, the scientific community, businesses, and public organizations.

“Discussions are currently underway, and key proposals are being formulated to guide state policy on the development of the Far East and the Arctic zone,” Afanasiev stated.

In addition, the conference will address critical issues such as the development of infrastructure in the Arctic and Far East, as well as the transformation of the Northern Sea Route into the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor.

“At the conference, we will explore advanced technological and engineering solutions for the Far East and the Arctic. I want to emphasize that our focus is on supporting the state programs and national projects announced by our President,” said the conference’s executive director, Tamara Mordasova.

She added that in 2026, the event will feature its first roundtable dedicated to bioeconomy issues.

“Bioeconomy is an emerging field covering bioenergy, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, food production, and food waste recycling. We already have around ten reports prepared – substantial work by practicing teams,” Mordasova noted.

The 11th The Far East and the Arctic: Sustainable Development international scientific and practical conference, will take place in Moscow on March 11-12.
