Minister of Transport: The Northern Sea Route should be unmanned

The Northern Sea Route (NSR) should be unmanned; this implies that we must solve a number of engineering and infrastructure-related problems, Minister of Transport Andrei Nikitin stated at Eastern Economic Forum-2025.

“The Northern Sea Route should largely be unmanned. It has, as you said, a set of engineering problems and solutions. At the same time, we are facing quite clear infrastructure-related tasks,” he said.

In addition, the situation on the NSR requires that we build icebreakers, ports, and terminals, and revive the system enabling operations by an emergency rescue fleet, as well as we need to build ports and terminals in the aquatorium, he added.
