Russian strategic bombers cross neutral airspace over Barents Sea

Two Russian Air Force Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers have performed a planned flight in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea. At some stages of the flight, they were escorted by foreign states’ fighters, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.

“Two Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers of the Russian Aerospace Forces’ long-range aviation performed a scheduled flight over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea. The flight lasted over four hours. The crews of Su-33 aircraft of the Navy provided fighter support for the flight. At some stages of the flight, the strategic bombers were escorted by fighter jets of foreign states,” the statement said.

The Ministry also noted that long-range aviation crews regularly perform flights over neutral waters in the Arctic, North Atlantic, Pacific Ocean, Baltic Sea, and Black Sea, in strict compliance with international rules for using the airspace.
