Almost 4 million tons of freight to be delivered to Russia’s hard-of-access regions in 2026

The sum of purchases will amount to 204 billion rubles. Cargoes will be delivered by the Single Maritime Operator , with the latter to be coordinated by the Northern Delivery digital platform launched on January 1, 2026, a spokesperson of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

“Category One cargoes make up the bulk of the purchased and delivered freight. I am referring primarily to fuel and lubricants, food products, medications, health food, and other socially valuable goods.  Category Two cargoes comprise a small part of Northern Delivery and are intended for state and municipal needs,” the spokesperson added.

Freight delivery cooperation agreements for this year’s navigation have been signed with the Chukotka Autonomous Area, Yakutia, the Khabarovsk Territory, and the Kamchatka Territory. Next strategic documents will be certified by the authorities of the Arkhangelsk and Sakhalin regions.

It is noted that all regions concerned are planning to acquire seagoing fleets of their own after the Single Maritime Operator is in place. This will help to cut logistical costs and reduce dependence on the freight market.
