The new body will coordinate maritime policies and integrate regional waterways into the Northern Sea Route’s infrastructure, the document, posted on the territorial legal information website, notes.

The Council will facilitate information-analytical and scientific support for implementing national maritime policies in the region, as well as the territory’s state policy in the sphere of maritime activities. The Council will deal with the development of ports, the modernization of the sea-going fleet and more actively using the potential of Siberian rivers for Arctic navigation.

The Maritime Council consists of the Governor, his deputies, specialized ministers, heads of seaports, shipping companies and organizations carrying freight and passengers in the basin of the Yenisei River.

Council members will meet at least once a year.
