Murmansk Region Governor informs President Putin about the development of Arctic territories

Murmansk Region Governor – Chair of the State Council Commission on the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic, Andrei Chibis, informed President Vladimir Putin about the main goals of a comprehensive project to develop the Arctic and the Trans-Arctic transport corridor.

The project includes security measures, extraction of natural resources and their deep processing and the creation of a seamless transport system.

He noted that the Arctic was the mainstay of the national resource potential.

According to Chibis, substantial headway has been made in the number of investment projects worth 35 trillion rubles, and the Northern Sea Route posts a record-breaking performance.

The governor singled out another important objective of the comprehensive project, specifically, boosting living standards of Arctic residents and launching the Arctic Mortgage program that has spurred housing construction.

In 2023, the Murmansk Region was able to attract additional migrants, and negative population growth rates were halved in the past five years, the governor added.
