Yakutia’s drones launch second phase of cargo delivery project
Cargos were airlifted from Yakutsk to Nizhny Bestyakh in subzero temperatures, according to Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Anatoly Semyonov.
Anatoly Semyonov noted that drones could maintain uninterrupted traffic between communities when bodies of water freeze over and at temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius.
“This will help considerably reduce logistic outlays; cargo delivery deadlines will plunge by two to three times, and the same concerns delivery costs, compared to other routes,” he wrote on his Telegram account.
During the first phase, from mid-July until August 10, drones successfully carried about 600 kg of freight across the Lena River. A drone delivers a 10 kg parcel, and its trip lasts 15 minutes.
