Unmanned vessel successfully tested in Arkhangelsk Port
The Briz, the region’s first unmanned boat, has completed trials in Arkhangelsk Seaport water area ahead of an experimental program for unmanned cargo delivery to remote Arctic islands, according to the regional government’s press office.
Powered by a Russian-made diesel engine from Yaroslavl, the boat features multiple domestic radio-electronic systems supporting various control modes, including both manual and automatic operation. Equipped with an automatic identification system, the Briz can transport up to 500 kg of cargo over long distances, according to its technical characteristics.
An unmanned test run to the Solovetsky Islands is planned in coming days. Officials are evaluating potential applications for marine unmanned systems ranging from coastal infrastructure development for drones to their integration into regional transport networks.
“We must advance to active implementation, enabling regular unmanned deliveries to island territories within two years. Today’s pilot tests aim to make this technology a permanent part of our regional logistics system in the future,” said Alexander Tsybulsky, Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region.
