Yamal to host Tenth Mother Language Dictation on February 20
The tenth annual dictation Our Language Polished through the Ages will feature languages of indigenous peoples in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, including the tundra and forest dialects of the Nenets language, the Shuryshkar dialect of the Khanty language, the Cis-Ural and Surgut dialects of the Khanty language, the Selkup language and the Izhma dialect of the Komi language.
The dictation’s theme deals with the unity of peoples and the Year of Health in Yamal. Teachers and experts on languages of indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North will read out the text. The event marks the International Mother Language Year and takes place within the International Decade of Indigenous Languages.
