Amur Region Governor Vasily Orlov met with Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov to discuss plans for establishing the Amur international university campus in Blagoveshchensk, according to the regional government’s press service.
Vasily Orlov noted that the campus concept and development roadmap have already been finalized, and that the region has submitted an application to participate in the federal competitive selection process.
The governor emphasized that the construction of the international campus in Blagoveshchensk will help address workforce needs for major investment projects across the Russian Far East.

“Highly qualified specialists are already in demand at the Vostochny Space Center, the Amur hydroelectric power plants, the Power of Siberia gas pipeline system, and the Amur Gas Chemical Complex,” Vasily Orlov said. “Moreover, thanks to its unique border location, Blagoveshchensk is gaining new strategic importance, serving as a gateway not only to China but also to the countries of Southeast Asia.”

The governor added that, in addition to training specialists for industry and business, the campus will also prepare sinologists and experts in international relations.
According to the project concept, the campus will be based at Amur State University and will include new academic buildings and research laboratories.
A key participant in the project is the Institute of Geology and Nature Management of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which is expected to serve as the campus’s principal scientific and technological center.
