Far Eastern fishermen exceeded the initial scientific forecast by catching over 320,000 metric tons of red fish, according to the press service of the Federal Agency for Fisheries.As usual, the Kamchatka Territory accounted for the bulk of all catches, contributing 80.3 percent of the grand total (257,200 metric tons). The Khabarovsk Territory placed second with 29,500 metric tons. The breakdown for the Magadan Region, Sakhalin Island, the Primorye Territory and Chukotka is 12,600, 11,500, over 8,900 and 326 metric tons, respectively.Salmon accounted for 69.5 percent of all catches (222,300 metric tons), followed by chum salmon (14.5 percent and 46,300 metric tons) and sockeye salmon (13.3 percent and 42,700 metric tons). Silver salmon accounted for 2,7 percent and 8,600 metric tons. In all, 235 metric tons of chinook salmon and 43 metric tons of cherry/masu salmon were caught, according to the press service.
