There are plans to open a new filial branch of the Russian Ethnographic Museum in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and to organize the first exhibition in September 2026, according to the Government’s press service.The new facilities are to display unique artifacts, found on Sakhalin Island and nearby islands and highlighting traditions of regional residents and their everyday life from the late 9th century until the early 20th century.The museum’s exhibition will also feature materials showing the role of Russia in preserving the culture of small-numbered indigenous nations and their languages.“The new museum complex will become a multirole center for storing, restoring and digitalizing various collections. It will also feature modern public spaces for holding exhibitions, creative and educational events,” Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin noted.The new building with an area of over 3,500 square meters features the museum’s emblem and sign and houses a lecture hall, a multimedia movie theater, a food court and a souvenir store.
